Under Instruction

As many aspiring journalists and media professionals before me, I have set up a new blog to hone and develop both my writing skills and the approval of my university tutor, Shirley.

Researching on-line, 'how to set up a blog', I selected Google's  'Blogger' option as the one most likely to keep it simple. Other options I considered were LiveJournal and Wordpress, but as I read further into the small print I became nervous. I only want wysiwyg (what you see is what you get), nothing too fancy, not yet.

My next task is to personalize everything and make it truly mine. I need to attract followers and advertisers and all sorts of additional paraphernalia (bits of stuff).

The blog is called Scratching Post so that when I have a burning desire to share some thoughts on matters mundane or off-piste, like an itch that needs scratching, I can hopefully find some relief.

Needless to say, if my posts irritate others they can scratch back, my advantage of course is being master of the 'delete comment' key!

Last time I set up a blog it was a more personal affair and it was in danger of becoming a journal/diary of disaster and crisis as fate followed us around. Not good blogging.

Scratching Post however is a much more open affair and I hope it becomes more enjoyable over time. If you need to get anything off your chest in connection with current issues, feel free. All I ask is for no naughty words - asterisks are permitted.

Shirley, I hope this meets Lecture 1 homework requirements, no doubt I'll find out on Tuesday.
